New Blog

As you can see its been forever since I've posted here. A lot has happened since that last post in 2011. With the help of my sister I've decided to give this blogging thing one more try. I might not post everyday but I'll try to post at least once a week. If you're interested head on over to my new blog Wy Mama to see the newest addition to our family and where I'll be posting from now on. Hope to see you there!

Wedding Dress Preservation

I love my wedding dress. It is simple, elegant, me. My sister and I only went to two different bridal shops, and it was at the second one where we found my dress. After the wedding I knew I needed to get my dress cleaned AND preserved because I wanted to save it. You never know if a future daughter or niece will want to wear it or the veil. So off to the dry cleaners I went and about three weeks later I got the call that it was done. Here is my newly cleaned, newly preserved wedding dress.

I cannot get this photo turned, so you'll just have to tilt your head.

I'm very happy with how it turned out, especially knowing that it won't yellow or get ruined over time.

New Hair

Last year at this time I was growing out my hair, only getting a trim every few weeks in preparation for the wedding. Well, the wedding was over two months ago and my long hair just wasn't doing it for me anymore. Plus this past month has been rainy and humid, something that doesn't go well with naturally curly hair. So this past weekend I went and got a real haircut, with multiple inches cut off. I'm really happy with how it turned out and know my morning routine will be much easier.

Wedding Pictures: Getting Ready

Well, we finally got our professional wedding pictures back a few weeks ago and I LOVE them. I'm so happy with how they turned out. There is no way I'll be able to post all of them, so I'm going to split them up into different posts and only post my favorites.

To begin here are the pictures of us girls getting ready at the hotel. Enjoy!

Irene

Well, it's Sunday and Irene has come and gone. Yesterday we had rain off and on all day as she made her way up the coast. It wasn't until later last night when the heavy winds came. And boy did they come. We have a rather large tree right outside our back door and the noise of the wind blowing through the tree all night was a little nerve wracking. We did lose power during the night but it was restored earlier this morning. Thank goodness the only cleanup we have are of all the leaves in the backyard that were blown off the tree.

Wedding Weekend

Sorry I haven't posted since last week. This week I have started a new job and have been busy trying to get our life together. Our house is still currently a wreck and I have a list a mile long of things I need to do. However, all this will have to be put on hold because this weekend we're headed to New Jersey for this little ladies wedding.

I'm so excited to be part of her wedding festivities and am looking forward to Saturday when her and Mike say I DO. I will be sure to have an update once we get back. Have a great weekend!

P.S. Her dance moves are one of a kind. As seen above at our wedding!

Christmas Decor 2010 - Part I

Here are a few pictures of our Christmas decorations. As soon as I can get blogger to upload the others without taking forever I will. In the meantime, here you go (MOM!)...

The family room entertainment center has decorations on most of the shelves, with lighted garland in front of the tv.

The only decoration in the kitchen, besides dish towels, is above the sink.

I wanted to do something different on the dinning room table and this is what I came up with. I already had the tins, place settings, and mesh. All I had to buy were the trees, ornaments and chargers.

DIY Headboard

Two weeks ago Sven and I spent most of our Saturday building this headboard. We just followed the tutorial with only one modification - I didn't buy the 2 inch foam squares but instead bought 2 full size foam bed toppers each for $10. I saved about $40 going that route. Here is the final product...
The fabric is an upholstery fabric from Calico Corners. Since it was so thick the hardest part was making the buttons. I highly recommend the above tutorial if you're considering making a tufted headboard.

Wordless Wednesday: Our Fur Child

I can't believe we've had this cute face for a little over a year. Even though he takes up a lot of our time, attention and eats a lot of carpet, we wouldn't want it any other way. He sure does make us laugh a lot!

A List

I currently don't have any pictures taken of some of the projects we've been working on, so this post is just going to be bulleted list.

This past weekend we made a tufted headboard for our room. I followed this tutorial and am very pleased with the way it turned out. It was definitely time consuming but very well worth the end result.

We also worked on cleaning up our backyard and preparing for cooler weather. This included raking leaves, mowing the yard on last time, weeding and taking apart the vegetable garden.

On Saturday we got together with some friends and went to a local bar/restaurant to watch the Penn State football game. Unfortunately we didn't do so well.

The rest of the weekend involved cleaning, laundry and grocery shopping. Fun, fun!

This week is going to be a busy week at work, but as soon as I have time to post pictures of the upholstered headboard I will. So stay tuned...

A Good Read

I'm not a reader. I don't enjoy it like my mom and sister do. However, when I do find a good book it is usually read in a matter of days. The problem for me though is finding a 'good' book. I decided awhile back that I need to start using my daily train time for reading. So a few weeks back I went to our local B&N and got an Emily Giffin book, Love the One Your With.

It was an easy read, but I loved it. Then while I was out shopping with my sister and mom I picked up Something Borrowed, by Emily Giffin. That too was a great book that I was done with in just a few days. So tonight I decided to bite the bullet and order her other three books, Baby Proof, Something Blue and Heart of the Matter. I cannot wait until they get here!
Do you have any good book recommendations?

January 21, 2010

It was a typical Thursday, or so I thought. Sven ended up picking me up from the train station, since he didn't have to work, at 8:00pm. Once we got home he suggested that we go through the front door, instead of going in through our garage like we normally do. Not thinking anything of it, I followed him. As soon as I walked in Sven was down on one knee and a ring box was sitting on the table right next to me. And before I knew it we were engaged. Afterwards Sven took me downtown to the Penn Square Grille to celebrate. The proposal was simple, sweet and just what I had hoped for.
